Her Sport Strategy

As part of serving our mission to enrich the lives of people with a disability through participation in sport, we’ve identified the need to specifically reach the girls and women of NSW and the ACT.
Our HER SPORTS approach is informed by the excellent HER SPORT HER WAY Strategy from the NSW Office of Sport. This world-class approach to engaging girls and women is an evidence based strategy built on 3 universal barriers to female participation in sport:
- Appearance
- Ability
- Priorities
In addition, girls and women who want to engage in adaptive sports also have the challenge of most of our sports being unisex, either at the grassroots level or all the way through to the elite level. Whilst the unisex approach has social benefits, it can exacerbate the universal barriers mentioned above, thereby making participation in sport for girls and women living with a disability even harder.
So we are doing something about that. We have established a HER SPORT Committee led by Paralympian Sarah Stewart.
See below our first 2 HER SPORT Festivals designed specifically to encourage girls and women to participate in sport. We have more announcements to come, so please check back in with us and spread the word about the events below:
