Welcome to Wheelchair Sports NSW, we’re thrilled you want to have a go at para-sport. If you’re new to participating, you’re in the right place.
The term ‘para’ is Greek for ‘alongside’. We use the term para-sport to describe any sport or recreation opportunity designed specifically to include people living with disabilities. We provide opportunities for people living with disabilities to participate in para-sport in 3 ways:

Further, sport for people living with disabilities includes an additional idea called Classification. Simply put, Classification is a process that involves an official Para-sport Classifier, usually a sports medicine professional, providing someone living with a disability an official classification of their disability class. A Classification is only necessary for those who want to seriously pursue their para-sport, as its required for most official para-sport competitions. However, if you’re starting out in para-sport, you can just come along to a TRY opportunity & learn more about the sports for now.
