Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT ran a Corporate Experience for our new graduates and their counselling managers. The Roadshow provided a great opportunity to hear inspiring stories from Paralympic athletes, to generate team camaraderie amongst our people and the opportunity to experience a small part of what life is like for people living in a wheelchair.

ANZ Private Bank
I would like to thank Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT for running an excellent afternoon of teambuilding and fun. The wheelchair basketball was something very different and challenging for the team who thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a perfect event for when you have a mix of participants, as being in the wheelchair is a great equaliser. Your presenters story was inspirational and engaged well with our group and is a credit to your organisation. Thank you very much for hosting the team at ANZ Private Banking.
Regards,

Corrs lawyers recently attended a Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT event. We were privileged to hear the stories of a talented and driven wheelchair basketball athlete. Then, we all took to the court for a challenging game of wheelchair basketball. The whole event was greatly enjoyed by all and immensely inspiring.

Loop +
Brendon and the team at WS NSW/ACT were absolutely incredible. We got to experience a moving chat from Brendon about the power of sport for people living with a disability. Followed by a solid session playing wheelchair basketball. Myself and the Team at loop+ were able to dive slightly into the shoes and perspective of someone that uses a wheelchair to get around. The skills, coordination and barriers of general movement were challenged and really gave the team a first hand experience which will never be forgotten.
You never even slightly understand what it feels like to live with a disability. But for that specific moment we all were exposed to the limitations and barriers of using a wheelchair. it’s tough! It’s powerful and I cannot recommend you and your professional team book a session with Brendon and/or any WS NSW/ACT champion.
On behalf of loop+, thank you so much! We now have a slightly better understanding of the world of disability and can take this experience and use it to improve our work in the community.

Tabcorp
What a fantastic Experience by the team at Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT.
Myself and colleagues from Tabcorp were inspired by stories of their organisation, built around a goal of belonging and inclusion, and its members. We heard from three-time Paralympic Basketball medal winner Kylie Gauci, who spoke of her tenacity and resilience in the face of adversity, and shared her experiences in performing at the highest level.
Following that, we participated in some competitive games of Wheelchair Basketball which gave us all a huge appreciation of the skills of these athletes: requiring ball skills, upper body strength and most importantly strong teamwork and communication skills.
The Wheelchair Sports Team Building Experience gave us the opportunity to build awareness around disability inclusion and connect as a group in a fun and different environment.
I recommend this highly for any team engagement or corporate event, and wish you all best on the basketball court against Kylie!

MySAS
We really can’t thank you enough for the bloody brilliant team building and bonding sports session you provided for our end of year bash (which regrettably some took a little literally).
The event was an enormous success and a number of our partners have commented that it was the best corporate Xmas function they’ve ever been to. Certainly, from a MySAS perspective we could not think of a better way to share and demonstrate our values than partnering with WSNSW.
From an educational perspective a number of people commented that it had given them a real perspective on what it means to be in a wheelchair – and this was from people whose job it is to design accommodation for people with disability.
A massive success all-round

icare
On Mon 13 Mar 2023, the icare Procurement team participated in a team building event with a difference - Wheelchair Basketball at the KGV Recreational Centre. It was fast paced, stimulating and lots of fun, and the team absolutely loved it. Our four teams battled against each other with some fierce competition in the games. The winner’s trophy went to Team Jordan’s Rolling Dribblers; Team Basket Brawlers gracefully accepted the wooden spoon trophy and sees it as a reminder of the great day we all shared. Congratulations to Noori, Mujeeb who took out the ‘Man of the Match’ prize. Nishizono, Rasa, Captain of Sweaty Bouncers, probably came out with the most battle wounds but still left the court victorious (i.e., not last).
We had the pleasure of meeting Brett Stibners, Australian Wheelchair Basketballer, and a gold and silver medallist Paralympian. Brett shared his story about being in a car accident at the age of 21, resulting in his leg being amputated above the knee, and the many challenges he faced in his journey to recovery.
A big thank you to Melisa Prieto and Brendon Talbott for setting everything up and organising such a terrific fun event for us. It is greatly appreciated.

Element Environment
On behalf of myself and the team, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Wheelchair Sport NSW / ACT for hosting the wheelchair basketball event for our team. The event was not only a thrilling sporting experience but also a profound lesson in resilience, overcoming adversity and wellbeing.
You hit our brief for the day and exceeded our expectations, leaving us with valuable life lessons in resilience and overcoming challenges. Your guidance and support enabled us to push our boundaries and find strength in the face of adversity. We have gained a renewed sense of determination and the belief that we can overcome any obstacles that come our way.
The basketball games were filled with excitement and camaraderie, revealing the competitive spirit within our team members. We are still buzzing from the experience, grateful for the opportunity to showcase our skills and enjoyment of the game, as we come together as a team.
I want to acknowledge the emphasis placed on our wellbeing throughout the event. From accessible facilities and equipment to prioritising our emotional support, your approach ensured a safe and inclusive environment. The impact on our physical and mental health was profound, reminding us of the transformative power of sports – and we are all feeling it in our shoulders today!
Thank you once again for organising such an unforgettable event. We are grateful for the memories made and the lessons learned, and we look forward to sharing our experience with others and look forward to participating in future events hosted by Wheelchair Sport NSW / ACT. Your commitment to creating an inclusive environment where individuals with disabilities can thrive in sports is truly commendable!

Forward Ability
Thank you Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT. What an experience it was to play Wheelchair Basketball!
It's a beautiful game that challenged us, taught us a thing or two, made us really sore, and made us laugh like never before. An excellent team building experience that does so much more. Here's a great way for teams to bond, have fun, meet a Paralympian and hear their story, experience wheelchairs, broaden their understanding of people with disabilities who use wheelchairs, and do all this, while serving a purpose.
Give it a go;
Albeit you'll be sore;
A bit of play, a bit of fun;
And so much more;
You've got us hooked;
We'll be back for sure.
