Wheelchair Sports NSW is asking for your help this Christmas by making a donation to support our members and programs.
Ava was born with spina bifida – a condition where the spinal cord fails to develop properly. This bright eyed eight year old is quick to tell you she’s not different to others but she needs help with every day tasks like getting dressed or getting in and out of the car.
Ava’s mum, Kristy, recalls her heartbreak at seeing her child left out because she could not physically go where other kids would run off to play. “Through her involvement with wheelchair sports, Ava’s needs are catered for and she has learned a lot from being with other kids in chairs – she can do more things for herself now. Watching the Paralympics on TV was good to identify with what she does at Junior Wheelies Christmas camp and who she’s met (like Kurt Fearnley)” says her mum Kristy..
You can bring joy to kids like Ava this Christmas by making a donation – so they get the same opportunities as other kids, to enjoy their childhood and grow into healthy, independent adults.
Thank you for your support.
