Wheelchair Tennis rolls into Blacktown Tennis Centre Stanhope

Blacktown Tennis Centre Stanhope will be hosting the Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Open for the first time this January.

Now in its 30th Year, the tournament will kick off the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour that is set to hold more than 150 tournaments in over 40 countries in 2018.

48 players from over 15 countries will take to our courts to compete in the tournament, including Dylan Alcott, two-time Paralympian and double Gold Medallist for Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and WS NSW members Keegan Oh-Chee, Adam Kellerman, and Ben Weekes.

Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali said it is wonderful to see how our Council facilities are being used.

“We are proud to be an inclusive Council that hosts wheelchair events like this one and the Wheelchair Sports NSW Summer Down Under Series which will take place on the 24 January 2018 at the Blacktown International Sportspark” continued Mayor Bali

Visitors can enjoy free entry to come and watch. Matches will commence at 10 am daily from 9 to 12 January.

To further support wheelchair tennis, Tennis NSW and Tennis Australia in partnership with Wheelchair Sports NSW will be organising a “Wheelchair Tennis Community Day” on Thursday 11 January from 10am-12pm. All ages and stages along with friends and family are welcome to come to the Community Day and try wheelchair tennis.
