2009 Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis

The Event

  • 2009 will be the 21st year of the Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Open, hosted by Wheelchair Sports NSW (WS NSW).
  • The Tournament will be played from Wednesday 4th to Sunday 8th February 2009. The event is an ITF Level 1 Tournament on the NEC International Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
  • There are 7 draws for players to enter:
    • Main Draw/Second Draw Men singles
    • Main Draw Women singles
    • Main Draw Men doubles
    • Main Draw Women doubles
    • B/C Grade division
    • Quad
    • Junior
  • Last year's tournament featured 128 players representing 21 countries, including Men’s World No 1 Shingo Kuneida (JPN) and Women’s World No 1 Esther Vergeer (NED). Over 70% of the field are international players
  • The 2009 Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Open will have a total prize pool of $20,000
  • Play commences from 9.00am each day. Entry to the Tournament is FREE at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, Rod Laver Drive, Sydney Olympic Park. Some shade will be available on the Tournament’s Show court for all spectators.
  • Finals will be held on Saturday 7th February and Sunday 8th February from 11am. Saturday 7th February will feature the Men’s Doubles Finals and the Women’s Singles Finals. Sunday 8th February will feature the Women’s Doubles Finals and Men’s Singles Finals (to be confirmed).
  • WS NSW again plans to conduct a mentoring “Come n Try” clinic for junior/beginner “wheelies” on Sunday 8th February at 9:30am

A. INCLUDING ACCOMMODATION

AUD $810 per player.

AUD $895 per coach.

Package dates are Tuesday 3 February 09 – Monday 9 February 09

  • Entry into the Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Open
  • Six (6) nights share apartment accommodation at Star City; including breakfast (arrive/check in Tuesday 3 February, depart/check out Monday 9 February 09)
  • Five (5) lunches at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre (from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 February 09)
  • Players pack including Tournament t-shirt
  • Registration and Welcome Dinner
  • Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Open Farewell Dinner

* Alternate and/or EXTRA accommodation requests will be at an additional cost. Please contact Wheelchair Sports NSW directly for an alternate accommodation request at Star City.

B. NOT INCLUDING ACCOMMODATION

  • Entry into the Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Open
  • Five (5) lunches at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre (from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 February 09)

  • Sydney International Wheelchair Tennis Open Farewell Dinner

TOURNAMENT CONDITIONS

  • Matched played under the ITF Rules and ITF Code of Conduct
  • All players must wear appropriate ITF approved tennis attire, WT regulations.
  • All matches will be best of three tie-break sets (unless otherwise determined by the Tournament Committee)
  • Players can only compete in one singles and one doubles with the exception of Juniors. Juniors may compete in Juniors, an adult event and doubles
  • The Tournament Committee with advice from the Referee, reserves the right to amend a player’s division if considered necessary
  • The Tournament Committee reserves the right to cancel an event if the entry numbers are deemed to be too low
  • Coaches must be certified by the International Tennis Federation to receive the coaches’ rate of the entry fee
  • All players should be aware that some matches will be played during twilight/night session/s, including but not limited to a specific Friday night semi finals session.
  • All elements of the Entry Pack are subject to change
