WNWBL Finals Review
The Sydney Metro Blues Women have gone one step further than last year’s silver medal, claiming the gold after sweeping the 2017 WNWBL Finals.
Sydney Metro Blues started the weekend well with a win advancing straight to the Gold Medal game, defeating Sydney Uni Flames 68-32. Cobi Crispin was the stand-out player for the Blues with 23 Points, 11 Rebounds, and 7 Assists while Tracey Carruthers and Annabelle Lindsay for the Flames each had 10 points and 9 rebounds.
In the other Semi Final the Be Active Western Stars defeated the Queensland Comets 64-51, advancing to the Preliminary Final against the Sydney Uni Flames. The Flames went on to advance to the Grand Final, defeating the Stars 56-41.
In the Grand Final the Sydney Metro Blues defeated the Sydney Uni Flames 57-44 in a fantastic display of team basketball. At quarter-time, both teams were tied. The Blues edged ahead to be eight points in clear at halftime Led by finals MVP Cobi Crispin who excelled with 24 points and 17 rebounds. The flames came back in the final quarter to get within six points on the back of a solid performance by Annabelle Lindsay, 12 points and 14 rebounds. While Liesl Tesch also impressed with eight points, 12 boards, seven assists and three steals.
Sydney Metro were deserving gold medalists after finishing the regular season on top and winning 11 consecutive games this season.
