Wheelchair Sports NSW (WS NSW) provides sporting opportunities to people with a physical disability through sporting events and programs within NSW. The vision of WS NSW is to enrich the lives of people with a disability through participation in sport.

The major objective for WS NSW at the Illawarra Disability Sports Family Day is to increase awareness and create opportunities for individuals with a disability to participate in sport event and programs. The 2016 Illawarra Disability Sports Family Day was held on Sunday 9 October between 10:30am  and 3:30pm at the Wollongong City Council Sports Facilities at Beaton Park Leisure Centre and surrounds.

The 2017 Illawarra Disability Sports Family Day will be held on date tbc between 10:30am  and 2:30pm at the Wollongong City Council Sports Facilities at Beaton Park Leisure Centre and surrounds. General Public are invited to come and try some sport and recreation opportunities similar to those the Paralympians demonstrated to the Australian public through September at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

This inclusive participation encourages a level playing field for ALL, and can be seen as a powerful motivator for community action into the future as well as the support other sporting codes.

Wheelchair Sports NSW (WS NSW), formed in 1961, is a charitable organisation responsible for the development, promotion and delivery of wheelchair sport in NSW. It all started more than 50 years ago with a few visionary wheelchair members who believed in the power of sport to rehabilitate and integrate.
